What is PRP – microneedling?

The micro-pen uses a sterile needle tip to create controlled micro injuries to the skin. This technique causes the skin to naturally produce elastic tissue and collagen. During the treatment PRP (platelets rich plasma) is used as a topical product.

Micro-channels are created by the micro-pen and PRP is absorbed into the deeper layers of the skin and release growth factors into the skin. It stimulates the body’s own repair process. This treatment is ideal for smoothing fine lines, acne scars, stretch marks, wrinkles and general skin rejuvenation.

What is PRP?

PRP is a natural product created from your own body. A small amount of blood is drawn and spun down in a centrifuge to separate into different components. The platelets and plasma are separated from the red and white cells. The plasma contains a higher-than-normal number of platelets and is called PRP (platelet rich plasma)

What type of numbing will I require?

Topical numbing will be applied for 20min prior to the treatment, but no anesthesia or medication is necessary.

Before the procedure

It is important to avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E and alcohol for one week prior to treatment. This will minimize the chances of bruising. Avoid retinoids, topical antibiotics, exfoliants, hydroquinone, sun exposure, and benzoyl peroxide 3 days prior to procedure

What can I expect after PRP microneedling procedure?

The skin will be red similar to a sunburn for 12 hours to 3 days. Mild swelling, peeling and tightness is expected. These are temporary side effects and usually resolve within 3-4 days. Total healing time depends on skin condition, skin type and the depth of the treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Usually, it takes up to 6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart. Some conditions may need additional treatments for ideal results.

When will I see the results?

An immediate glow is noticed by the patient right after the treatment. Visible improvement takes about 2-4 weeks.

How long does the PRP microneedling treatment takes?

The treatment takes approximately 1 hour. Blood must be drawn, centrifuged, separated and the plasma has to be activated before the procedure.

Post procedure

On the next day, you may clean your face and apply makeup, lotions and other topical products as usual. From 5 to 7 days stay away from retinols, exfoliants or glycolic acids that are present in cleaners as these can make your skin very dry after the procedure. Be sure to use a board-spectrum SPF30.  Days 2-7 you will notice skin dryness and flaking. This is due to an increased turnover of skin cells. During this period, you may apply your regular skin moisturizer.
