What is Kybella?

It is a new FDA approved treatment for submental fullness also known as a double chin.

What is a Kybella treatment like?

It is a series of injections of a liquid given under the chin.

Is the treatment uncomfortable?

The skin is numbed for 15 to 20 minutes with a topical numbing cream. Most people find the treatment very tolerable. There may be some slight discomfort.

How does Kybella work?

It consists of a chemical called deoxycholic acid which helps dissolve the fat cells.

How many injections are given in each treatment session?

15 to 25 small injections are given into the area.

How long does each treatment session take?

Most people will be in the office about 30 to 40 minutes. This includes the numbing time as well as marking the skin for the injections. The injections themselves only take 10 minutes.

How many treatments does it require?

It depends on how much that you have under your chin and also how responsive your fat is to treatment. Most people require 2 to 4 treatment sessions. If someone has a lot of fat and it may require up to 6 treatment sessions.

How often can the treatment with Kybella be done?

You must wait four weeks or more between treatment sessions.

What areas of the body can be treated with Kybella?

Only the double chin has been FDA approved.

Are there any side effects with Kybella injections?

There may be minor bruising, swelling, redness, skin tightness, and a burning pain at the injection sites. This is temporary and the side effects wear off quickly. There is no downtime and most people return to their daily activities immediately.

Are the results of Kybella permanent?

The results are permanent unless you make major lifestyle changes and gain a lot of weight.

Who is a good candidate for Kybella?

You must be 18 years of age or older. If you have fat under your chin that you cannot get rid of with diet and exercise alone then you may be a good candidate.
