Subcision

This is a minor procedure that is performed under local anesthesia. It is used to improve the appearance of depressed areas, such as acne scars that are bound down by fibrous bands of collagen in the deeper skin. The fibrous bands are broken up by placing a needle in the skin, moving it back and forth, and detaching them. The depressed area rises and in a few weeks skin is visibly smoother.

There is usually some swelling and possible bruising during the healing period, which may last up to one week. Multiple scars can be done in one session, but a series of treatments may be required for optimal results.

This procedure can be combined with microdermabrasion, laser treatments and dermal fillers for better results. Treatment varies depending on the depth of the scar and the condition of the surrounding skin. Please call our office to schedule a consultation.
